FLANEUR WAY- CREATE

A space in which to connect, participate and view upcoming creative events, exhibitions, interviews, workshops, and more. One of the main passions to the flaneur is creativity. We all experience this life and our world in our own perspective. It is this, that sets us apart and makes us unique from one another. One of the intentions to this platform is to be a voice for your story, your vision and creations to be heard, to be seen and experienced. My hope is to reveal these authentic expressions through creative opportunities that allow free expressions both individually and collectively to occur.

GUEST FLANEUR- Mustafa Hacalaki ( photographer, Illustrator )

Mustafa Hacalaki, is a photographer, graphic artist, and illustrator born in Izmir, Turkey, based in Montréal/Canada since 2009. In 2007, I received my MA degree from Dokuz Eylül University, Institute of Education Sciences, Department of Fine Arts. He has participated in several national and international exhibitions.

Mustafa has his own unique style. With a keen eye, one can easily pick his work out from the rest merely by the choice of moody and atmospheric settings, the shadowy or reflective characters and the bold lines created by surrounding objects and architecture that lead the eye directly into the main subject. Often framing his characters, solo, in cafe’s, at night, on quiet walks through parks or urban environments, he is able to capture these intimate moments of solitude, giving us the viewer a chance to be a fly on the wall and become a voyeur in their lives for a moment.

Drawing inward & outward

drawinginandoutpromote.jpg

This class will focus on finding beauty in our day to day. Looking and seeing the simple, and ordinary that become extraordinary when you take time to slow down and witness the intricate design and details of life.

Through different drawing, mindful, and movement exercises, we will observe the practice of letting go of perfection, and control of the outcome so that we can better flow with life. Observing all the textures, shapes, and contours of our inner and outer landscapes. Learning to have the courage to show up, and express our authentic visions despite all the vulnerability that can exist in a given moment. We will learn to surrender to the moment, being open to allow whatever is at the time to be expressed, through the body and mind.

IMG_5328.jpg

Take note of the plan:

When: 6:00-7:30pm

WHERE : Outside - We will take to the streets, to stroll like a flaneur, through Montreal, wandering off the beaten path into nearby alleys and parks. Taking the time to observe, and tune into our direct experience. Using creative and mindful exercises, to look and see, listen to hear, and connect to feel. Having a conscious effort set to be mindful through our senses.

1 ) DRAWING INWARD : Choosing a nearby park to begin, we will pause to bring ourselves to the moment by checking in : Using our breath, and mindful meditation to slow down and observe our body and mind as it is at the moment. We will then move to a brief movement practice that is meant to release stagnant energy, circulate the chi, to the body and mind and calm the nervous system. So we can prepare to flow and use our senses to observe our direct experience.

2 ) DRAWING OUTWARD : Throughout the stroll, we will be taking moments to PAUSE and CREATE. Using several different drawings exercises to LOOK and SEE what is truly there.

3) I will be instructing a variety of different drawing methods and techniques

A breathtaking journey. Unique and luminous. Library Journal

Uplifting, poignant and gently provocative, much like a prayer flag blowing in the wind. Publishers Weekly
A heartwarming and soul-refreshing story. Kirkus

Bruce Kirkby’s chronicle of living in a remote Buddhist monastery with his family is by turns hilarious and enchanting. What a beautiful ode to impermanence, to the families we choose and the families we find, and to the complicated wonders of a different, and fast-disappearing, way of life.

Kate Harris, author of Lands of Lost Borders: Out of Bounds on the Silk Road

Family adventure doesn’t begin to describe what transpires in these pages. Kirkby and his remarkable family have built a bridge between the Rockies and the Himalaya, and in so doing spanned the gap between autism and Buddhism. In addition to being a manifestation of deepest love and devotion, this book is a time-bending journey through a landscape and culture that filled me with envy and sorrow by turns, while showing me things I have never seen described in a lifetime of reading. We are lucky to have someone as brave, generous and open as Bruce Kirkby abroad in the world.

John Vaillant, author of The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival

I was blown away by the audaciousness of this epic family voyage, desperately wishing I was there with them. Kirkby’s writing offers a vivid exploration of culture, geography and relationships, but also, more urgently, of how we choose to live—and whether that’s possible to change.

Alex Hutchinson, author of Endure: Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance
