JUST LIVING

in the moment

This is an invitation for YOU to share your story from a moment in time. A core-memory that is viscerally unforgettable. It is a memory in which you feel you were truly present and JUST LIVING.

In Japanese, there is a proverb called Ichigo Ichie. It can be translated in many ways but the main meaning is “one time, one opportunity, or in this moment. It is a practice of being present in all moments and striving to truly JUST LIVE fully in each of them to make them meaningful and memorable. It is an awareness that all moments are fleeting and can never be replicated in the same way.

This concept and way of being inspired the JUST LIVING project.

In 2014, I curated the first JUST LIVING exhibition. I had turned 40 that year and wanted to create a project that involved the community. It was my way to celebrate my journey and the connections made, the experiences lived, and the moments that I was a part of. It was a great success. It is 2024, I am now 50 and in deep reflection of the passage of time.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, I am asking the global community to share their stories. It is a way to unite us in this “one” lifetime” through a thread of moments that made up this journey. The intention is to curate an inclusive rather than exclusive project that celebrates the uniqueness of our individuality and the entanglement and interconnections to each other, our surroundings, and our universe in this moment.

SUBMISSIONS rules:

SHARE a story with a visual from when you felt you were present and JUST LIVING. Describe it viscerally, through each of your senses so we can re-live this core memory with you. Imagine you are writing a postcard from the past to the present, sharing the details of this unforgettable memory. Tell us what it felt like, describe the surroundings, the smells, the temperature, who you were with, where you were, the year, the time of day, and most of all why this this moment is memorable for you. Share it with a word, a sentence, or a paragraph. This is a practice of reflection, creativity, and storytelling.

So I invite you NOW to dive into your archives and journals to find this core memory to share with others. It can be from your travels, or everyday moments on your own, with friends, or with family.
