all you have is NOW
The hummingbird has landed on Canadian soil once again. Back from a month-long adventure in Cuba. Each time I go, I experience something new, old, the same, and different. As we all know, Cuba is on the brink of some potential big changes, and to have been a witness and a ( Flaneur ) an observer, in ad mist of all that, is special and rare. Just like everything, you have to take it for what it is. Like any adventure, or experience, you need to enter it with an open mind, without judgement or expectations, and just flow with it. This was my intention. I didn’t go there anticipating the Cuba I had known or the Cuba I think it would become. I went back again to see it for what it is NOW. I went again because I’m in love with the country and the people, and well maybe the weather had a small something to do with it. I went there to observe, explore, and create. Capture what I was seeing, hearing, feeling, and sensing. Through the use of a camera and sketchbook. My experience was full of moments of highs and lows, hot and cold, healthy and sick, quiet and loud, busy and slow, sun, sea, mountains, countryside, and city streets. I had a few dollars as I came into the country and a few less as I left the country. That was the same with sleep. I met artists, dancers, photographers, bakers, cobblers, singers, architects, and all walks of life. I made some new friends, spend some time with old friends, and lost my dear Aunt to a sudden heart attack along the journey. I learnt a few more words and phrases in Spanish, brushed up on my French, and taught a few words in English. All and all , a great adventure. I have plenty of stories to tell and even more photos, video's and sketches to share. Day by day, I'm taking time to process the trip, get grounded once again, and focus on the new projects, exhibitions, and workshops ahead. Stay tuned as there are lots in store.
